Roller - Skating Adults Vs. Children

Today I went Roller skating with my brother, 9, and sister, 13, during the time when kids were allowed to skate, it was over 18's after 8pm. We all had a brilliant time, after we had taught my brother what to do as it was his first time on skates.

It was really busy when we first arrived but then a big group of men came in and were showing off; skating backwards or doing tricks or going really fast whilst there were children as young as ~3years old still skating. Many of these little ones were falling over quite frequently as were most of the other people there. These men that had just come in were cutting these kids up and making them fall over again. As I said earlier this was my brother's first time skating and he was cut up and knocked over 6 times within the space of 20 minutes and that's not because he had no balance.

Notice I say it is men that are doing this. It is the same whether I go ice-skating, roller-skating or swimming there is always a group of men trying to out do each other, it's very rarely women that I see being boisterous and competitive when there are children around.

About half an hour in to being there, the families with small children left the skating area, either to get food or go home. My brother and sister left the skating area as they were fed up of being knocked over and getting up only to be knocked over again. Whilst they were out, I decided I was going to go a bit faster as the area was emptier. But when I was turning in to the corner, I was taken out by one of these hooligans, who then instead of apologising, looked at me as if I was the one who needed to apologise and when I didn't, he just got up and skated away.

I've got quite good balance so not much would take me out. Just think about what would have happened if it was my brother he had taken out or a little one, would he have just stared, waited for an apology and then skated away when he didn't get one? Would the one knocked over be hurt badly?

Should it just be adults with children that are allowed to skate whilst it is time that is allocated to everyone? Over 18's get their own time to go where the aren't any children about, why didn't these men go then? They only had to wait an hour or two before their time started. There should be a time for families with young children to go where they won't be in any danger and will be able to have fun without having to worry about being knocked over.

A Sitting Bomb; A Poem

I used know a girl,

She had a white blonde curl.

She used to sit and read,

This used to help succeed.

Now we sit and wait,

Trying to hide her fate.

Her temper is getting worse,

It’s almost like a curse.

Waiting to explode,
Like a gun waiting to reload.
She doesn’t even care,
That people stop and stare.

That little girl's in exile,
The one remaining is fragile.
One thing will set her going,
Her temper then starts growing.

I used to know a girl,
She had a white blonde curl.
Now there’s no aplomb,
She’s like a sitting bomb.

Twitter Vs. Facebook

Twitter and Facebook are both popular social networking sites within the Teen age group as they are both sites on which you can quickly contact friends and it costs nothing to join or use where as texting costs money to use. Both are similar in a few ways but are different in so many others.

Facebook is a social networking site where you can chat with friends, post statuses or pictures, play games and do quizzes. You can read your friend's statuses and 'like' or comment on them. There are a big selection of games to play, from looking after a zoo or farm to being an alien and exploring space to mafia wars. Facebook is a quick way to allow others to talk to you or find you.

Twitter is a social networking site where you can follow celebrities and friends, post 'tweets' and share pictures and videos. You can read the tweets that the people you follow have posted and your followers can read your tweets. If you see a tweet that you like you can Re-Tweet it which allows your followers to see it, you can also reply to tweets or direct message a person (no one else can see it). Twitter is a rapid way to update your status and find out what others around you are doing at that moment in time.

Twitter and Facebook are similar in a few ways, they both allow you to tell the world what you are doing and allow you to post photos and videos of the world from your eyes. Also they let you read other's post/tweets and you can reply/comment on the posts.

On the other hand, they are completely different from each other. When you send a friend request on Facebook you have to wait to have your request accepted before you can talk or comment on that person's posts whereas Twitter you can just follow the person instead of sending a request and they don't have to follow you back. On Facebook you can 'Like' pages that are set up for celebrities however on Twitter you can follow the celebrities and actually get an insight in to what their lives are like, what they are doing and see photos that they have taken. Although on Twitter you are much freer in what you can do, Facebook has a wide range of games and quizzes.

What do you think is best?

Twitter or Facebook?

If you don't have either which interests you the most?

Christmas Day

Merry Christmas!! Yes, It's finally here. Hope you all got what you wanted and had a wonderful day with your family. I know I did.

Unlike normal Christmases we didn't have our stockings at the end of our bed which meant that I wasn't woken up at silly O' Clock in the morning but I was woken up 5 hours earlier than I have every other day this holiday. Unusually it was my sister that was first up and my brother who was refusing to get up.

Once everyone was up we sat downstairs and opened our presents all as a family. The first present that I opened was a box of skin care products, I don't think that Santa meant anything by that. From my Brother I got a pair of strippy knee length socks and I gave him an Indianna Jones model, some erasers and a bouncy ball that flashes red and blue. From my Sister I got a charm with my name on it and I got her some erasers and I made her a Dream Catcher. All presents given resulted in a hug, although from my Brother, who is 9, I got a bearhug whilst lying on my back.

Until dinner time we did whatever we wanted to do. I drew some Manga characters with the help of the book I got for Christmas. Then I set the table for dinner and made little place cards with everyone's names and a manga drawing of them on it. Once we were at the table we pulled the crackers and put our Christmas hats on. Everyone laughed when any one of us didn't understand the cracker jokes. After dinner we all did our jobs whether it was unloading and putting away things from the dishwasher or loading it or clearing the table whilst doing so we found our stockings which were full of presents for us.

It's a family tradition to go for a walk after all the jobs are done and we have eaten, last year we couldn't go as I was injured and on crutches but this year we walked around where we live delivering some Christmas cards that we should have delivered during the week.

Once we were back we watched Ratatouille then some other films until Doctor Who was on. It was a brillliant episode and completely contradicted what I had said. The episode was fantastic and had my Brother hiding behind my elbow and a cushion.

Now we are watching Independence Day whilst my Dad and Brother are playing Tintin on the Wii. Today has been brilliant but it hasn't ended yet.

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!!

Power Cut Cakes Update

After the shenanigans of baking the cakes yesterday, it turned out that it was too late to give any to the new neighbours as they had gone out and I had broken yet another household appliance in this house.

This time it was the oven.

 Within a month I have broken;
                                      - The Washing Machine, actually it broke just after I used it.
                                      - The Settee, another spring broke in it after I stepped on it whilst trying to fend of my Dad who as usual was being annoying.
                                      - The Big Light in the Living Room, I hit my brother with a cushion and hit the light but it breaking wasn't actually my fault it was just one of the causes.
                                      - And finally, The Oven, which apparently due to my cooking happening during the time of the power cut caused the Element(?) to break and cause the oven not to work.

That is 4 things within 4 weeks that are slightly important in the daily running of a family household. The question my parents frequently ask me is How!! How I manage to break object so often!! How I am capable of causing so much damage within a short space of time!! How I can be so clumsy for a dancer!! My answer is more often that not, Who Knows!!

Power Cut Cakes

Today I decided to try and make some little fairy cakes due to this little holiday season we call Christmas. And as this is a time of giving I am going to give some to my new neighbours who moved in at the weekend.

Every time I cook, something goes wrong whether the object being cooked, catches fire or in this case there was a power cut. It happened half way through baking the cakes and i didn't know how long to carry on baking them for.

It started well, I managed to make the cake mixture with out a problem and get them in to the oven without burning my self. Then about 7 minutes after the cakes were put in the oven, the computer screen went blank, the TV turned itself off and the tree lights went off. I ran to check the oven and guess what..... that was off as well.

Our power had tripped. We don't know how or why.

10 minutes later the power was back and the cakes were nearly ready. 2 minutes later the cakes were out the oven and ready. The cakes have been left to cool and will shortly be eaten or given to the neighbours. This batch of cakes were the best cakes I have ever made.

Lego Bricks

Lego bricks are small pieces of plastic that are potentially dangerous. They always manage to get into places that will be easily trodden upon. From this I have come to the conclusion that they are evil geniuses and if they were left in a room on their own, they would come up with a plan for world domination.

Have you noticed how they always blend in with their surroundings ready to attack the sole of your foot?

Another thing, how can something so small create so much pain when you tread on it. The worst thing about these "TOYS" is they can be made into weapons which hurt even more. My brother makes his Lego into guns and when I don't play dead after being shot, he will hit me around the head with it.

The one positive side of Lego is you can be creative and even make a stop go animation (which fails for me). This release of creativeness can establish many ideas which in turn will unfold into stories and dreams.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 film review

David Yates has directed another fantastic instalment of the Harry Potter series. This is the final film in the series in which you see the main character Harry Potter along with Hermione and Ron constantly get in to trouble with teachers, arguing with Malfoy but in the end uniting to face the dark wizard, Voldemort.
We have followed Harry from his mistreated youth to defeating Voldemort.
In this long anticipated film, we pick up where we left off with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) search for the last three horcruxes. This film portrays the twisting relationships in this friendship and forms new bonds between characters that you don’t realise when reading the books.

The tension rises when Ron leaves Harry and Hermione to carry on the hazardous journey through thick and thin until Harry needs saving again then Ron the hero arrives and pulls Harry to safety.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 is full to the brim of mind boggling graphics and spell binding music. In this magical mayhem comes Love, Loss and Regret amongst the return of many old friends (even if they are dead) and enemies. As Harry’s life draws to an end so do the lives of countless friends we have come to know and love. Snape’s death brings a new light to Harry’s eyes, when Snape (Alan Rickman) gives him his memories so Harry can finally learn the truth. It is during watching Snape’s memories, that Harry learns that he is the final horcrux. This causes a catastrophic amount of damage as it leads to Harry’s doom.

The filming during Harry’s final moments is phenomenal, as it cuts between the faces of Harry and Voldemort(Ralph Fiennes) until the final moment when it pauses, at the climax, on Voldemort to see him shout ‘AVADA KADAVRA’, the camera then pans out to follow this final spell hit Harry and to see him fall. Whilst the camera is cutting from face to face, the music is quickly building up tension and volume, to make this tense scene even tenser than it already is. At the climax of this scene there is a sudden stop in the music after which Voldemort casts the fatal curse.

During this chilling scene Hagrid is made to watch then carry Harry back to the castle, where Voldemort announces Harry’s passing to everyone who is gathered there, friends or foe. Neville the knight in shining armour comes in to give an inspiring speech to Harry’s followers. At the end of this there is a massive cheer and Harry leaps out of Hagrid’s arms. This then leads to the second fight scene in which we see major characters, such as Bellatrix and Fred Weasley, die.

This film follows the magical mayhem caused by Voldemort and his Death Eaters but out of this the unity of the wizarding world to follow one cause and find love out of all the death that happens.

David Yates wouldn’t have been able to have directed such a fantastic film without a star studded cast, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are joined by many well-known actors such as Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Felton, Julie Walters. The angles these actors bring to the characters wouldn’t be the same if they were played by anyone else.

This film brought £85,673,797.93 in box office worldwide and had a 4/5 star rating from many major review companies. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 broke many records (16 in total) and won 15 awards and is nominated for 9 awards at the 2012 people choice awards.
